During the mid to late 1990s, Peter Burns worked for Alstom in a number of roles.
Nelson Point Yard Sigview system
Nelson Point Yard control system implemented train control functionality onto a Sigview platform as part of BHPIO’s yard upgrade project.
Peter Burns was Project Manager for this system.
Non vital interlocking, Incident Replay and various information systems were features developed for use here.
First generation Sigmap
First generation Sigmap was distinguished from other contemporary device development within Alstom by being developed on a product model rather than a project model. Peter proposed the commercial framework which allowed ongoing development and upgrade based on sales to projects. He was Project Manager for delivery of this product into projects such as Granville and Newport, and marketed it (with National Sales Manager) to other potential customers based on a development strategy for the product.
Training system for Indonesia
Peter produced the first Australian SSI training simulator at Alstom for the then SRA in NSW in 1995. The version shown in the photo was built for the Indonesian Railways and delivered to Bandung in 1997.
He managed and delivered training in SSI design, maintenance and testing between 1995 and 1998 for both customer and Alstom internal staff. Sigmap and PMUX training was also managed and delivered over the same period.
Peter also designed SSI for Newport (stage 1) and Hurstville (stage 1) and checked SSI for Sunshine, Newport (stage 2) and Upfield.
