Camberwell panel

Camberwell resignalling was a project required delivered by the original Connex franchise.

By late 2004 the project design was nearing completion but the allocated SSI designer had just resigned and the scope needed to be extended to include implementation of supplementary overlap protection for some signals before a regulator imposed deadline in 2005.

Peter Burns as Connex Project Manager was responsible for the on time delivery of a number of “supplementary overlap protection” projects of which Camberwell was one.

These projects were the result of a study and two reports (study and one report prepared by Peter Burns) following two overlap related collisions in 2000-1. Peter Burns subsequently prepared and gained approval for the supplementary overlap protection guidelines which formed the basis for the projects (then informed the relevant VRIOG standard).

Peter initiated a split of the project into two stages, the first to deliver the original scope, then the second to add the additional protection scope. By also providing additional assistance in performing required design roles at each of the stages, the deliver within the mandated final delivery period was assured.
